Museum quality services are offered by Lawrence Framing and Conservation, 109 E. Scranton Avenue, Lake Bluff, IL 60044. The conservation process is summarized below and can be completely reversible. All Hana Shirts are lightly steamed or pressed to remove any folds, creases or wrinkling. A custom sealed wood stretcher is prepared with unbleached cotton canvas and Belgium linen that provides a stable base for supporting the textile. The shirt or textile is then hand stitched to the prepared mount with cotton stitches using only as many stitches needed to support and distribute the weight of the garment as evenly as possible. Depending upon size and weight, muslin and poly batting may be inserted to give the garment a more natural appearance. All stitches are blended to make the textile as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Once the shirt or garment is museum mounted, a custom shadow box and/or frame is assembled with UV acrylic or glass. This preserves the original shirt or fabric from environmental pollutants, such as ultraviolet light, which is especially dangerous to textiles.
